Ukon Wacka

Funnily enough I noticed today that Korpiklaani (who just appeared to be the band for today's song) finally announced the release date and name of their upcoming album. The name will be "Ukon Wacka" and the album will be released the 4th of February 2011. Looking forward to that!

Day 2: The meaning behind your name.

And so it's day two.
To be honest, I don't know if there's much to say on this one. My online name Katsu is just something I started using loads of years ago and then it's just stayed with me.

My real name appearantly means "the hard-working one" and I guess that fits me, hahaha. I'm quite ambitious. Anyhow, my parents chose it since it was the name of my grandfather's mother I think, so it was just an old family name re-used.

Song of the day #11

Korpiklaani - Vodka
A hell of a catchy song! Unfortunately I can't relate to it since I don't drink alcohol, haha. Crazy drunken finns~
If you don't know, Korpiklaani is a finnish folk metal band definitely worth checking out. I guess the music goes very well with winter-y climate (in other words, it's perfect time for it now).

Day 1: 5 interesting facts about yourself.

I've been surfing the web this afternoon after I got home from university and accompanied by some tea and inspiring music I found one of those 30 day challenges as they are called. This one seems quite alright so I'll try it out. At least you'll get to know more about me, whether you like it or not.
Here goes number one!

Day 1: 5 interesting facts about yourself.
Hmm, tough one. But I'll try my best. I'm not sure these are interesting at all, haha.

1. I'm an obsessive person. When I get interested in something it take it to the depths. I'm never vaguely interested in stuff, that's just not me.

2. I didn't care for music when I was a kid. Then something happened. Dun, dun, duuuuuun...! *dramatic pose*

3. I'm really shy and have problems making new friends. This is one hell of a nuisance, I hate it. I wish I was more outgoing and dared to take the first step. I don't know if I'm lacking confidence? Perhaps.

4. My closest friends are all boys. (well, with an exception or two) I have no idea why, actually!

5. I've never failed a single test (at school). Ever. I'm quite proud of that.

Song of the day #10

Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone (John Williams) - Hedwig's Theme
I'm one of those who've grown up with Harry Potter and the many wonders of his world. The books are some of the best I've ever read and the movies are great. I still haven't come around to watch the newest one though.
This song is one among loads of great ones on the soundtrack. John Williams is a great composer.

To order or not to order...

250 SEK (about 25€) without shipping and customs.
Quite expensive.

Song of the day #9

Monty Python - Lumberjack Song
A classic! I mean, who can't love this song? Monty Python are geniouses. He's a lumberjack and he's okay...!

Song of the day #8

I'm in a very deep Alice Cooper period at the moment. The only thing I've listened to these last days are Cooper songs (except for some Rob Zombie, haha).
So, today's song is a Cooper song because I couldn't be bothered to switch to the other playlist.

Alice Cooper - Love's a Loaded Gun
The thing with Alice Cooper is that it's not only the music that touches me. I often don't care too much about the lyrics, but when it comes to Alice, it's essential. This song is... wow. But on the other hand I'm quite speechless about a lot of his songs. The lyrics and the feeling put into them... Ah. Now I sound like a crazy fan but this is really how I feel about his music. Just wow. Okay, I'll quit rambling already. Listen to the song!

I giggled.

Starting off this lovely saturday with a good laugh. Tee-hee.

(For those of you who don't get it, click here).

The Last Temptation

Just thought I'd drop a few lines before going to bed. This album is perfect.
Listen for yourselves. The lyrics, the music to accompany it.. everything.

I take your words and try them on
Yeah, it's a perfect fit, boy
You tell me one size fits us all
Yeah, like an old straightjacket

New layout for the winter

The title says it all. Still doing minor corrections so it's not fully complete. Even though I liked the old layout I feel this one fits the winter much better. Oh and yes, it's Alice Cooper, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and... the Katsu smiley up there. Yup.

Bye!

Friday

I borrowed this book from the library yesterday (rough translation: "Metal/Hard rock - acoustic feedback, studs and wryneck"). I started reading it a bit this morning and it seems great. There's also a second book released a few months ago if I'm not mistaken. Now that's something to wish for as a christmas present. ;)

I feel quite carefree today, something that might be the result of the sun finally deciding to show it's face in about a week without "real" sunlight. It's really cold here as well, last time I checked it was -10 outside. Brr! As I'm from southern Sweden I'm not really used to temperatures like these, haha. We hardly even get any snow down there - last year being an exception.

Song of the day #7

Rammstein - Du Hast
Great and powerful song from one of my favourite bands. If you haven't heard it yet you definitely should, haha!

By the way, I'm working on a new layout for the blog since an autumn themed layout doesn't seem like the right thing when there's tons of snow outside...

Song of the day #6

Good morning. I've finally found myself an online radio playing Nights with Alice Cooper so that's what I'm listening to right now. Too bad it starts at 6am in my timezone... Oh well, I'll get to listen to half the program at least ;)

Tierra Santa - Rumbo a las estrellas
I actually don't listen much to Tierra Santa nowadays. I mainly started listening to them because I was reading spanish and to improve it I listened to them now and then. This song is quite catchy. Enjoy. :)

Song of the day #5

Guns 'n Roses - Paradise City
Another old classic. Reminds me of summer, and I guess is partly because I got to hear thing song live this summer. Not by G'nR though, but Slash and his band. It was great.

Nights with Alice Cooper

Sometimes I'm a bit jealous of people living in the US. Not often I admit since I'm pretty content with living in Europe. Buuut I'd love to be able to listen to Nights with Alice Cooper.

For those who doesn't know, it's basically a radio show hosted by the man himself airing in the US and unfortunately I have yet to find a way to listen to it. The closest thing I've come across is his podcast, which contains some snippets from the past shows and some are very amusing. I also stumbled upon a hilarious youtube clip located at the bottom of this post which I'd recommend to just about everyone.

00:13-01:23 made me crack up, seriously.

Song of the day #4

Ugh, I overslept today. Not too good. Today is filled with welsh studies, yay...

Black Sabbath - Iron Man
A classic. Basically anyone interested in metal should have heard this one. Not much else to say, haha.

Song of the day #3

Monday again - and time for a lecture later on. I'm actually looking forward to that, haha.

The 69 Eyes - Suspiria Snow White
Mmh, some finnish gothic metal here. I am a fan of Jyrki's voice, it's very deep and.. yeah. Haha. I've quite recently discovered the music of The 69 Eyes and have yet to listen through most of their music. Anyhow, this song is a bit poetic, in my opinion. And beautiful. Yep.

Song of the day #2

Good morning. I hope you all had a great Saturday. I had, at least. ;) Anyhow, time for today's song!

Queen - Don't stop me now
This song is such a spirit raiser. Whenever I need to feel happier, perkier, alert, etc, this is the ideal song. As I'm listening to it now while writing I'm definitely in a good mood. It's almost as if I feel like dancing around and sing, haha.

Doro + Song of the day #1

Ironically enough I found myself a new (to me, that is) musical experience yesterday night after posting my ten top singers. Doro Pesch is the person I'm talking about (and her old band Warlock as well). Another female voice that I really enjoy. Isn't it ironic considering how much I was rambling about not really liking female voices? Haha.

However, I got an idea yesterday night (why do I get all ideas when it's time to go to sleep?). This idea is basically "the song of the day". I'll simply open up my main playlist on spotify, put the player on shuffle and press the next song button seven times and there we have it. Sounds like a good idea perhaps? I'll probably add a little picture, a short note about it and then a link to the song. I think this'll be a way for me to update the blog at least once a day. Haha. Be prepared to face lots of different musical genres though...

Okay, so here goes the first one then.

DIO - We Rock
Haha, now this was interesting. As you know I mentioned Dio yesterday in my list list of favourite singers. This song is really powerful and energetic in my opinion and is something I'd listen to when cooking.
We rock!

Top 10 Singers

Finally Friday. I almost thought I'd die with my head down in the books. Done with this week's studies, finally. So. As I've been sitting here this afternoon browsing the endless websites in cyberspace I thought I'd write something more interesting than my last posts.
I hereby present... my list of 10 top singers! It was hard, but I somehow managed to put together this list with the voices that makes my ear go into eargasm mode, haha. There are of course lots of other great singers as well, but these somehow manage to stand out from most of the ones I've heard so far. And no, these are not in any particular order.
Alice Cooper
Not really a surprise, huh? Alice's voice is so special. It's sometimes smooth and gentle, and sometimes purely rough, all depending on what song he's singing. Appearantly he's working on a new album now, and let's just say I'm pretty much hyped about it...
(Oh, and Melissa, if you happen to read this. See the shirt? ;D)

ALICE COOPER - Nurse Rozetta
ALICE COOPER - Vengeance is Mine
ALICE COOPER - Sunset Babies (All got Rabies)

Till Lindemann (Rammstein)
Aaah, now this is one hell of a voice! Till has got this dark, evil (and... german?) voice, which does a lot for Rammstein's music and sound in general. I mean, what would Rammstein be without Till? Exactly.
I can't get enough of his voice, it's without doubt one of my top favourites.

RAMMSTEIN - Ich Will
RAMMSTEIN - Engel
RAMMSTEIN - Frühling in Paris

Pär Hulkoff (Raubtier)
One of my newly discovered favourite voices. Raw, evil and powerful - that's the voice of Raubtier's singer, which suits their music perfectly. I haven't liked a swedish band this much for a long time, and a lot depends on Hulkoff's vocals. Listen and enjoy, I'm still amazed and can't really get how on earth he manages to sound like he does in song after song...

RAUBTIER - Lebensgefahr
RAUBTIER - Hjärteblod
RAUBTIER - Dobermann

Ronnie James Dio (DIO, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Heaven & Hell etc)
The little man with the big voice. I was devastated when he died earlier this year, I didn't even get to see him live and now it's too late. I don't really know how to describe his voice. It's very special and powerful, but other than that I don't know how to put it in words. Listen for yourselves. :)

RAINBOW - Long Live Rock'n'Roll
BLACK SABBATH - Heaven & Hell
DIO - Stand up and Shout

Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
I might not be the biggest Maiden fan ever, but I can't deny the fact that Bruce Dickinson has got one hell of a special voice. I happen to have a soft spot for operatic styled vocals and that's exactly what Bruce's voice is like...

IRON MAIDEN - Fear of the Dark
IRON MAIDEN - Blood Brothers
IRON MAIDEN - The Number of the Beast

Klaha (MALICE MIZER)
This man may be a little unknown to some people reading my blog. He was the last singer of my very treasured old favourite band MALICE MIZER and what a voice! Operatic and dark, just perfect. I get goosebumps by hearing him. During his era in Mizer the band went into a more gothic stage than earlier, which perfectly suited his voice. When the band decided to split up he pursued a solo career, with... pop songs. And nowadays I haven't heard anything about him other than that he had some sort of sickness going on. I'd love if he'd get back to doing operatic vocals again but I highly doubt it.

MALICE MIZER - 真夜中に交わした約束(Mayonaka ni Kawashita Yakusoku)
MALICE MIZER - Garnet
MALICE MIZER - 鏡の舞踏 幻惑の夜(Kagami no Butou Genwaku no Yoru)

Tarja Turunen (Nightwish)
Okay, this is the only female singer that actually makes it onto this list, haha. I just don't like female voices appearantly, but Tarja is an exception because her voice is just wow. Her voice is actually a quite dark one, and definitely sticks out from the crowd of endless amounts of female gothic/symphonic metal singers.

TARJA TURUNEN - Anteroom of Death
NIGHTWISH - Ever Dream
NIGHTWISH - Dark Chest of Wonders

Vince Neil (Mötley Crüe)
Haha, yes, yes. I had to use this picture because Vince looks so innocent and Mick is all angry. xD
Ahem, anyhow. What is there to say? I happen to be a huge Mötley fan (no shit) and I really enjoy Vince's voice. It's high-pitched and excellent, I haven't got much else to say.

MÖTLEY CRÜE - Girls, Girls, Girls
MÖTLEY CRÜE - Wild Side
MÖTLEY CRÜE - Don't go away mad (Just go away)

Marco Hietala (Nightwish, TAROT, Northern Kings)
Yes, yes, I happen to really like the vocalists of Nightwish. Marco's voice is raw, yet very easy to listen to. Definitely another great singer (and bass player, of course...!). There's not much more to say I think. ;)

NIGHTWISH - Master Passion Greed
TAROT - Pyre of Gods
NORTHERN KINGS - Take on Me

Hizumi (D'espairsRay)
Last but not least. This was a hard one. I mean, I love Hizumi's voice, but there were a few other candidates that also would deserve mention but in the end I decided to go with the singer of the japanese band D'espairsRay. I hardly listen to this band nowadays (or, more like, I don't listen to their new music since I got very disappointed with their change of sound a few years ago) buut, I can't deny the awesomeness of his voice.

D'ESPAIRSRAY - Grudge
D'ESPAIRSRAY - Gärnet
D'ESPAIRSRAY - Reddish -DIVA version-

To sum it all up: I'm a sucker for male voices. There's nothing wrong with female ones, it's just that I prefer male ones.
Edit: I seem to have counted wrong. xD There were only 9 people in this list the first time. I apologize and have added the last one. :) Thanks to Emil for pointing this out.

Today...

...has been productive!

And then, of course, I've been listening to some great music as well. (and got really, really annoyed when I realized it was snowing since I'd been thinking of getting a nice jogging tour this afternoon)

Anyhow, as I was saying, I've listened to music all day. I'm getting a bit stressed about the upcoming project at WeRock: this year's best album-list. I'm supposed to have 10 candidates and rank them from 1 to 10 (obviously), and damn it's hard. So far I've decided on 8 albums out of 10, but I have no friggin' idea on what order I should place them. Okay, the best album of the year is already chosen but the rest is a pain in the ass. There's a lot of difference in genres as well which makes it even harder.

Now off to more studies and perhaps, if the weather decides to be kind, I'll go jogging.

Oblivion and studies

I'm sorry for the lack of updates these past days, I'm busy with both university (three exams in the first three weeks of december.. bah) and the game on the picture above. I haven't got much else to say than that I've finally taken myself time to play Oblivion seriously and I'm pretty much caught in this wonderful game. I love it!

Last but not least, I've finally got my result on my first exam at the university. I did much better than I'd expected - highest mark! :D Woho!

The Moomins

Sometimes I fall into obsessions. As some of my friends might have noticed, this time I'm really into the Moomins. I've acquired most of the TV episodes to watch all over again (and going all nostalgic over my childhood and the awesomeness of this show) and now I've decided to borrow the books from the library.

And now, as I'm sitting here, sipping my tea and passively watching the TV this sunday evening, I read a little about the Moomin Museum in Tampere - Finland. I think I'll go there this spring, both me and Otto have been thinking of visiting Finland now when we're living so close to that cold country.
Anyhow, when I was browsing their website I found this little webshop filled with Moomin goodies...

Isn't this pillow case and notebook cute? Do want! Especially the notebook, it's got that special dark yet cute air to it which is so special about the Moomins.

Cornelis

I just got home from a visit to the cinema. Me and Otto decided to watch the new movie that tells the life story of the troubadour Cornelis Vreeswijk, born in the Netherlands and emigrated to Sweden when he was about 12 years old. He is considered one of Sweden's most influential and successful troubadours, which is a bit ironic since he actually never became a swedish citizen.

Cornelis is portrayed by Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby, also known as Hank von Helvete, singer of the band Turbonegro. In my opinion he was perfect for the role - especially by his looks.

What I thought of the movie? Well, I am a fan of Cornelis' music and in my opinion this was a very interesting movie. It seems like a just portrait of the man - an excellent songwriter with an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and the fear of being abandoned. I recommend it to all of you, especially if you're a Cornelis fan. :)

Fluffy!

Cyberdog just released these. Damn! They look so damn comfortable! And the black one would go great with my black fluffy leg warmers... Although I think I like the white one better combined with a black top. Must. resist. ordering.

Back to business.

Now both our guests are gone and I'm sitting in my room with this huge feeling of emptiness. I miss them, this week was really, really great. I also got a bit of a pause from my studies which was needed. But now it's time to get back to the everyday life and we definitely have to fill up our fridge and freezer, wash and clean. Not the funniest things to do.

Oh well. We'll meet again. :)

However, I've recently refilled my CD collection. These three CD's can now be found in my shelf. One of the local CD stores is going to get rich since I've been going there way too much, hm. But their prices are really affordable and reasonable. 3 great CD's for 200 SEK.

Deathstars - Night Electric Night (Gold edition)
Alice Cooper - Hey Stoopid!
Mötley Crue - Shout at the Devil

Yum. :D

22:40

Outside the kitchen window. Marvelous.
We just watched Shutter Island and Jaakko's last day here is coming to an end. Meh.

Snow, snow!

It's been snowing like crazy the last few hours and it's freezing outside. It's not that cold, but it's really windy so it's not too nice to be outside really. I had my last welsh lesson today and in about a month we have the exam. Lots to study!

My window. Yep, that's a picture of Renee over there.

Jaakko's been writing stuff around the house... Haha!

By the way! I noticed I had loads of new visitors today. Welcome, I guess? :'D Hope you'll stick with me and my weird thoughts.

Taumatawhakatangihanga...

Some place names amuses me greatly. This is one of them, haha.
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu is located in New Zealand and basically means "The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his nose flute to his loved one".
Try saying it out loud. Heh. What makes it even more amusing is that it sounds like "Die mother fucker" in the beginning. xD

Another amusing place which is pretty well-known is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in Wales. Just imagine saying you come from there, haha. (Dw i'n dod o Lanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch)

Beyond Good and Evil

Today I finally finished the Beyond Good and Evil game! I loveloveloooove it!

You play a woman called Jade, who lives in a lighthouse on the planet Hillys together with her companion Pey'j. War has broken out between the alien creatures The DomZ and the hillyans, and numerous of hillyans has been kidnapped and never seen again. The Alpha Section, basically some guardians of Hillys, are being opposed by an organization called IRIS, who claims that they are working for The DomZ. Jade gets dragged into all of this, armed with her camera and her staff which is called Dai-jo and is very convenient during battles.

This game is just great, it's got all I want. A cool hero(ine), a camera function, puzzles to solve and sneaking around guards and stuff. Lovely! The only thing I can complain about is that it's a bit too short. I played it through in 13 hours in total, which isn't that much.

Random screenshot found on google images. This part was really hard but after numerous of tries I finally made it. Yay!

Theatre of Death

My long review of Alice Cooper's new DVD at WeRock has now been published. Click the image to check it out. (Only in swedish, as usual when it comes to WeRock.)

Cozyness

Today is the last day of Elin's visit. Quite sad. She leaves us in abut three hours and then I'm stuck here with Otto and Jaakko. God help me.
Ahem. Today we went for a (very cold) walk to town and visited some shops because our guests wanted to buy something from Uppsala before they went home. I got some inspiration for some christmas presents as well which is great. After running through all the shops we went to a cafe and had a very cozy time.

This is what I ended up buying today:
Tea: Tropical Fruit (my favourite<3) and Strawberry
Scent candles: Jasmine & Citrus (smells wonderful)
Glasses: Moomin themed! These are so cute I'm dying.

Ta-daaah! I ended up putting some candles into them and now it looks extremely cozy. I like :D

All in all this day has been cozy-themed.

All Hallows Eve

So today is All Hallows Eve and we went to visit Uppsala's enormous graveyard which, by the time we got there, was filled with candles everywhere. It was amazingly beautiful. I had bought a candle to light for my grandfather who passed away when I was three years old since I always do that every year.

Elin by the candles. :)
Jaakko by the candles. :)
I love this evening, always so peaceful and cozy...

And when we got home we had a very nice cup of tea/glass of water/cup of coffee/glass of pepsi with some newly bought candles on the tables and all other light sources turned off. Then... the madness begun. Let's just say I will never ever be able to look upon our poor tea kettle the same way as I used to...

A picture says a thousand words...

Nostalgia

Phewphew!
I think I've studied welsh for about 8 hours today, including av few pauses when it's been time to eat and such. But, on the other hand I've managed to work myself through almost all my homework for next tuesday! This means I'll have lots of time to spend with our two little guests, hehe. :> So, I better get back to my homework and finish up for today.

But before I go I'll treat you to a new spotify list (I don't know why but I've been in the mood of making specially themed lists). I put this one together yesterday when I was in an extremely nostalgic mood. I hereby present the list of good ol' cartoon theme songs! Enjoy. ;)
